Procedures
Before School:
All students should eat breakfast. Parents this year every student will have free breakfast and free lunch. Please make sure your child has a pleasant morning filled with love and encouragement before sending them to school.
At the Beginning of School:
1- Be seated and silent after placing book sacks in designated area.
2- Place completed homework on your desk. (Parents, I don’t like homework. We won’t have much, but when we do have it make sure it is done. However, the students should read to you every night and work to increase their fluency and vocabulary. This is most important!!!)
3- Begin your bell work activity silently while Mrs. B checks roll. Morning papers will be kept in a folder in your desk. They will NOT go home daily. Grades will be taken for this work.
During class:
1- Pencils will be sharpened at the end of the day. We will not sharpen them throughout the day. If your pencil breaks or you need a sharper one, you will swap out with a new pencil from the sharpened pencil bucket.
2- Save trash until after class or when a break is given. Fold paper into a neat square before throwing it away.
3- Bathroom/Water policy:
- Please do not ask to leave class unless there is an emergency. Anyone who consistently asks to leave will need to schedule and individual conference with Mrs. B.
- No one will be excused during instruction or during certain activities. However, it is understandable if there are EMERGENCY exceptions on occasion, but this should only happen once or twice per year.
- Parents, during the first few weeks of school frequent restroom breaks will be given. After that we have a restroom break schedule. Students are also encouraged to use the restroom during PE and recess breaks.
At the End of Class:
1- Pack up belongings only after you have been asked to do so. (Remember!!! Mrs. B. likes a very clean classroom with no messy desks, floors, back pacts, etc…!!!)
2- Clean your desk and the area around your desk before you leave. Do not leave anything on your desk and remember to take your agenda home every night.
3- Sit silently at attention until you are dismissed.
4- If you are a car rider or second load student you will be allowed to read silently until your bell rings. This will ensure all students are where they need to be when they need to be.
Policies
Homework:
I will check homework after calling roll. All work must be on your desk by that time. I will come by your desk once. If your homework is not on your desk at that time, it will be marked as incomplete. Please keep your book sack organized to ensure all work is neat and easily found. NO TOYS are to be brought to school and book sacks should only have agendas and small binders. No items are to be hung on the outside of the book sack. This includes hand sanitizers, toys, or decretive items.
Late Work:
Once I have reviewed the answers, late work will not be accepted.
Tardies:
Please be seated and ready to begin at the appropriate time. If you are late, the school tardy policy will apply. Consistent tardies are recorded and will be handled by administration.
Absences:
- With an excused absence, you may make up missed work for full credit. Missed exams must be completed within one week. No tests can be given ahead of scheduled time.
- Make up work will be addressed outside of class instruction time such as during recess or PE.
- Make up work will be placed in your desk for the day you return. Some work may be sent home for completion, but most will require students to miss recess or PE time to complete.
Birthday Events:
Students may pass out party invitations if they include ALL students in our class. Parents may send one small individually wrapped treat for their child's birthday AFTER talking with the teacher to determine the best day for this celebration. NO HOMEMADE or UNWRAPPED items will be shared with the class.
Other Information: (This if for the benefit of the students.)
Students are NOT allowed to bring toys or game cards to school this year. These items will be collected and kept until the end of the year. Any money brought to school should be in an envelope with the child’s name, grade, and teacher’s name written on the outside. Please discuss with your child the importance of not sharing the fact they have money with anyone! Jewelry should be limited to earrings only. Watches and other items are very distractive. They will be placed in the student’s back pack if brought to school. Bows cause headaches and are easily lost. Please keep hair pulled back and out of eyes. Remember that lice is easily spread in the lower elementary grades. Cell phones are not allowed in class and if heard, they will be given to the office for a parent to pick up. If lost, we cannot look for them. Snacks are sold each day. The teachers will not stop class to look for lost money or make change. The students enjoy having a snack and they can be brought from home. At this age $1-$2 is usually spent. Drinks are $1.50, but the supply often runs out due to their popularity. No food or drinks (except water) will be allowed to return to this classroom after lunch or recess.
Classroom Culture:
We will work hard to have a positive classroom culture, and to celebrate success in many ways (positive phone calls, notes, increased privileges, class parties, etc…) In instances where our positive culture is disrupted, consequences will include teacher detentions, parent/guardian contacts, and administrative referrals.
Grades:
- Work will be checked regularly and will count as part of the student’s final grade.
- Progress reports will be sent out according to the school calendar.
- Daily work will be graded periodically, not all tests will have study guides sent home.
- Test grades will be worth more points than daily work.
Mrs. B’s Promises to students:
- I will always believe in your ability to succeed. This means my expectations are extremely high. I will demand your best at all times.
- I will listen to you.
- I will respect you and I will insist that others respect you in our class. Please let me know, in an individual conference, if you ever feel disrespected.
- I will never assign work unless I can explain why it is important. I do not believe in busy work.
- I will learn from you. You are smart people, and each of you brings experiences and perspectives to the class that will benefit the group. Please share you knowledge with us every day!
- I will always care about your well-being and happiness.
