Classroom Information
Take Home Folders/Agendas: Your child will have a purple take home folder and an agenda that they will bring home each night containing work completed that day, homework to complete for the week, and any notes concerning events that will be taking place at Holden School. It is important that your child brings their purple folder and their agenda to school each day as it is our way of communicating with one another and the most efficient way to send completed work/important information home.
Newsletters: I will send home a newsletter every Monday. The newsletter will have important dates for the week and important upcoming dates, skills that will be taught and tested, testing information, and any other important reminders. The skills we will cover each week will aslo be posted on Google Classroom for you to access at your convenience.
Homework: I will send a homework packet home on Mondays to be completed by Friday. You may finish this as quickly or as slowly as you would like. I completely understand that some nights are busier than others and this is why I choose to allow a full school week for homework to be complete. The homework pages that I send each week will be used to simply practice skills that we are going over in class. This will be a way to better prepare your child for what they will be tested on. I do not grade homework but I do ask that you return the homework packet on Friday. I simply want to make sure that they are trying and that I am helping them in the best way I can. :)
Grades: The majority of our tests will be taken every Friday with a few announced quizzes on other days of the week. Students will be tested on skills that have been covered extensively as to ensure that they are ready and that the grade is fair and earned. They will never be tested on something that they have not been adequately prepared for. Graded papers will be sent home on Wednesdays for you to look over and send back. Should you have any questions about a particular grade, simply mark it with a note and I will get back with you. Grades can also be accessed on PowerSchool. If you have any questions concerning PowerSchool, please contact the office.
Classroom Management and Discipline: I expect students to follow the rules and procedures of our classroom and school whenever they are at school. We are very structured in our daily routine and this allows each student to get the most out of their school day. I am not a tyrant :) and do not think that school should be miserable, so our rules are very simple:
- Be kind
- Keep your hands to yourself
- Use whole-body listening while learning - ears listening, eyes open, bodies still, mouth closed
- Respect our classroom and our school
- Try your best
I do not anticipate having any issues as each student is made fully aware of our rules and expectations from day one of school. I tend to lean toward positive reinforcement and will exhaust all options before giving a sad face, writing a note home, or sending a write-up to the office. My goal is to be fair and make school enjoyable while modeling how students are expected to behave in school and in their community. :) Should your child come home with a sad face, a note, or a write-up, you will be made fully aware of the consequences that they faced. You will never be left in the dark! As always, you may message me directly with any questions or concerns.
